A Profile of Lacoste

A Profile of Lacoste

Lacoste has a rich history within the sportswear and fashion industries having been first formed back in 1933 in the French capital Paris. The company's founders were Rene Lacoste and Andre Gillier.Lacoste himself was a top class tennis player and originally the clothing was created for him to wear when playing in tournaments, however they soon realised the potential of creating their own clothing brand that they could retail and distribute worldwide.Lacoste is perhaps best well known for the distinctive green crocodile logo that appears on the left breast of almost all of their individual garments, the company claim that they were the first clothing manufacturer to display their logo prominently on the outside of their garments rather than just in the inside label.By 1963, Rene's son Bernard took over at the helm of the company and he set about to create a huge growth in the companies brand profile, manufacturing output, turnover and profit and he was highly successful in achieving these goals.Bernard during his presidency of the company expanded their output beyond clothing to include footwear, perfumes, watches and sunglasses all of which were warmly received within the fashion community.Despite being formed as a sportswear brand Lacoste has achieved most of its success and sales as a fashion brand and its products are stocked at many of the leading department stores worldwide including Selfridges in London, UK, Saks, Macys and Bloomingdales in New York and David Jones is Sydney and they have many of their own branded shops located worldwide.
